Adelaide mother of alleged assault victim collapses during dramatic court hearing

The mother of a young man fighting for life after an alleged assault in Adelaide city was assisted out of court when she became overwhelmed with emotion over a bail decision.

Mother of 20-year-old Jordan Dodd, Jodie, came face to face with the man accused of punching and stomping on her son on Hindley St on Sunday.

Father of two, Craig Sansbury-Weetra, 23, has been charged with assault causing serious harm.

He was refused home detention bail in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, to the relief of Dodd’s family.

Jodie was heard weeping “my boy” during the hearing.

She collapsed outside the courtroom and was assisted by court sheriffs to an ambulance.

Dodd’s sister, Jaymia, and his partner, Dakota Leo, said the family were happy with the magistrate’s decision. .

“It’s appalling that something like this has happened … it could have been avoided,” Leo said.

Jaymia said hadn’t left her brother’s hospital bedside since she arrived in Adelaide from Melbourne after being told of his condition.

“They’re doing everything that they can to try and make him Jordan again,” Jaymia said.
