The decision not to take a lower offer at auction has seemingly paid off for the owner of a beachfront Wombarra home, with a $6 million-plus sale later ensuing.

The home failed to sell under the hammer earlier this year after bidding reportedly went well past the $5 million mark.

Selling agent, Mattias Samuelsson from Ray White Helensburgh said he couldn’t disclose the sale price.

However, industry sources indicated to the Mercury that it sold for $6.2 million.

Mr Samuelsson said the buyer was an Australian who has been living in Boston for the past 20 years.

“He flew back to Australia to inspect the property,” he said.

“There was a fair bit of interest in the home.

“The high-end of the market, after a slow six months, seems to be getting back on track. We’re seeing an uptick in interest.”

Since passing in at auction, the home had been listed with a guide of $6.25 million.

The home, complete with a four-person lift, had been attracting strong interest before even officially hitting the market earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Mr Samuelsson said 16 Haig Street was a unique property; “as good as anything I’ve ever seen sold on this coastline”.

“In addition to being directly across from the beach, it’s got unobstructed, 180-degree views, and it’s in a quiet cul-de-sac. It’s got the location, views and privacy.”

CoreLogic records show the property previously sold in 2018 for $2.45 million.

Sitting on 765 square metres and set over three levels, the main part of the Hamptons-style home features four bedrooms, while there’s also a one-bedroom, self-contained studio apartment on the lower level with its own bathroom and kitchenette.

Other features include beach access 15 metres away; a tropical rear garden courtyard and an alfresco with escarpment views.

The home has plenty of high-end features including a four-person lift, a four-car garage with a cellar; spacious front verandahs facing the ocean; and a large elevated spa at the rear with ocean views.

This follows another significant $6 million-plus sale in the region.

An uber-luxury Shell Cove home with its own rooftop bar and spa has changed hands and set a new residential price record for the suburb.

The home, known as ‘The Sanctuary’ is located at 1 The Promontory Drive, Shell Cove.

Selling agent, Amanda Bonnici from Ray White Shellharbour City said she couldn’t reveal the sale price when contacted by the Mercury.

However, industry sources have indicated it was more than $6 million.
