1960: Begins teaching at Ironside State School in Brisbane.
1974: Country Party leader Doug Anthony, who was a King’s school parent, offers Jones a job in Canberra.
1975: Voluntarily resigned from the King’s School in 1975, after one term.

1978: Runs for the NSW state seat of Earlwood as a Liberal candidate.
1979: Speechwriter for Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser.
1982: Part-time manager of the NSW Rugby Union team.
1983: Jones becomes the Manly Rugby Union team coach, leading the team to victory in the Shute Shield.
1984: Appointed coach of the Wallabies.
1988: Charged by London police with “outraging public decency” and “committing an indecent act” after being arrested in Soho public toilet. The charges are later dropped.
1989: Inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
1999: Alan Jones caught in the “cash for comment” scandal after it was revealed he was being paid by Optus to promote its products in “unscripted” moments on his radio show.
2012: Jones is widely condemned after claiming then Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s father had “died of shame”.
2024: An investigation by NSW Police into alleged assaults between 2001 and 2019 begins. Jones denies the claims.
18 November 2024: Jones arrested, aged 83.
