A 37-year-old man is dead after being stabbed at a unit complex in suburban Darwin, with another man taken into custody over the death.

Northern Territory Police said they were called to the home on Fawcett Court in Malak, in the city’s north, about 9:35pm on Monday.

Officers found the man unconscious in the backyard of his unit complex.

“He had a stab wound to the chest,” Northern Watch Commander Sean Patterson told ABC Radio.

Officers performed CPR on the man, but the 37-year-old was declared dead when St John Ambulance paramedics arrived.

Police say a 34-year-old male, believed to be related to the dead man, was arrested at the scene.

It is understood that the 34-year-old man is the uncle of the 37-year-old victim.

He remains in custody and is expected to be charged later on Tuesday.

It is the second fatal stabbing in Malak in recent months, following the domestic violence death of a woman on August 21.
