Sydney commuters have been thrown into chaos during peak hour after multiple train routes came to a halt.

Train lines including the T2 Inner West, T3 Liverpool, T8 Airport & South Coast, and the City Circle were affected by urgent repairs on Tuesday between Town Hall and Central stations.

Passengers have been urged to allow extra travel time, with some services delayed by up to an hour or cancelled entirely.

Some stops and departure platforms were changed at short notice.

A dedicated bus service was put in place to operate from Central Station to both Domestic and International terminals, but only in that direction.

Sydney Trains confirmed repairs were finished before 12pm, though delays are expected to persist.

“Sydney Trains is working hard to provide a frequency of service on these lines; however, train crew have been displaced as a result of this earlier incident,” a Sydney Trains spokesman said.

“Sydney Trains apologises for any inconvenience caused.”

Passengers are advised to check transport apps, information screens, and listen to announcements before boarding trains, and to allow extra travel time.
