The ceiling eventually collapsed. Luckily, no shoppers are believed to have been hurt.
The Red Dragon Martial Arts School was forced to evacuate mid-class when flash flooding caused the ceiling to collapse.
Students and staff could be seen running for safety in a video posted online.
Brett Fenton the owner of the studio said his business suffered significant damage.
“Our ceiling tiles are all collapsed in the first room, our second room is safe, but we’ve still got to make it safe for entering, because you have to enter through what we call the ‘war zone’ now,” Mr Fenton told ABC Brisbane.
“It’s a bit of a mess where we enter.”
The SES received almost 100 calls for help as property roofs were ripped off, trees crashed down and wild winds caused destruction.
