Girl, 15, dies and two others injured as car crashes into water in Helensvale

The driver died at the scene and the two passengers have been admitted to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A teenage child has died, and two others left injured, after a car crashed and landed in water on the Gold Coast.

The 15-year-old girl was driving a Toyota Corolla on Helensvale Rd, Helensvale, shortly after midnight on Sunday when the crash occurred.

“(The car) has, for reasons yet to be determined, lost control, hit a street sign, and came to a stop in swamp water,” police said.

Paramedics were called to the crash and treated the teenager for critical life-threatening injuries, however, she was declared dead a short time later.

Two passengers in the car were also injured in the crash.

A 21-year-old man was found with significant chest pain and a 15-year-old boy was treated for significant leg injuries.

They were both taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious conditions.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who have relevant dashcam vision, to come forward,” police said.

“The investigation is ongoing.”
