Severe thunderstorm expected to smash parts of Sunshine Coast, Gympie and South Burnett
A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of southeast Queensland., with heavy rains and possible flash-flooding forecast to hit as early as 3.4pm in some parts.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued to the warning about 3.20pm on Thursday to residents in parts of Gympie, Sunshine Coast and the South Burnett Council Areas.
“Severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash-flooding, large hailstones and damaging winds were detected near the area north of Goomeri,” BOM said.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“These thunderstorms are moving towards the north to northeast. They are forecast to affect Maroochydore, waters off Maroochydore and the area south of Biggenden by 3.45pm and waters off Coolum Beach by 4.15pm.”
The weather service said a more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
They advised residents in the areas likely to be impacted to park cars undercover, close doors and windows, and to keep medications close by.
“Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous,” BOM said.
“Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.”
