Two Queensland police officers suspended and charged with assaulting prisoner in Marreba watchhouse
Two Queensland police officers have been suspended and charged over an incident with a prisoner at the Marreba watchhouse in January.
The officers are due to face court over their alleged treatment of a 23-year-old male prisoner who was being held in the watchhouse for alleged property and assault offences.
A 51-year-old male senior constable has been charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm.

The officers are expected to appear in the Mareeba Magistrates Court on October 2.
In a statement, Queensland Police said the service “does not tolerate unlawful conduct by any members and takes these allegations very seriously”.
“As the matter is now before the courts, we are unable to comment further.
“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the Service faces serious allegations of misconduct.
“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated.”
