A shopping bag containing a “large quantity” of cash has been unearthed in scrubland just off the Flinders Hwy on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

Following a tip-off, police went to the site of the stash just off the highway near Laura Bay on Monday about 10.30am.

The bag was found “slightly buried in the scrub”, police said.

They said the cash was “believed to have been buried in the scrub for a substantial amount of time”.

Police are now investigating the find.
