Police officers have been injured after a man allegedly pointed a laser at an air wing helicopter.

The man was arrested after he allegedly pointed the laser into the eyes of the aircraft crew in Victoria on Sunday.

The helicopter was flying above the Footscray area when a laser was shone into the aircraft just after midnight on Sunday.

Air Wing officers directed police on the ground to a Footscray address shortly after.

Footscray officers interviewed a 53-year-old Footscray man and seized a laser from his address.

He is expected to be charged on summons at a later date with endangering the safe operation of an aircraft, possessing a dangerous article, reckless conduct endangering life, recklessly causing injury and assault emergency worker.

Two aircraft crew sustained injuries to their eyes during the incident and required medical treatment.
