Thomas, from Mandurah, is being cared for at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after undergoing surgery for multiple facial fractures.

He told 7NEWS the attack was random and completely unprovoked.

“All I remember is walking back from IGA Rivervale towards Great Eastern Motor Lodge with my partner, who was a few metres in front of me, and out of nowhere pretty much I got attacked by some random,” he said.

“He’s knocked me on the ground and then stomped on my head.”

A witness from a nearby business called police.

Thomas, who said he does not remember much from the night, was told his alleged attacker took a photo of him before fleeing the scene.

“I don’t want this to happen to anyone else, hence why I’m doing what I’m doing (speaking out),” he said.

“If they can catch this guy, awesome. I hope he gets the justice he deserves.”

Police say they are investigating.
