A man has been shot dead after the car he was sitting in was peppered with gunfire outside a home in western Sydney.

NSW Police and ambulance rushed to the scene on Regiment Grove in Winston Hills after a gunman took aim about 7pm on Tuesday.

Officers were told the man had been shot in the chest while inside a car.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital, before he died.

A large number of NSW Police have set up a crime scene and cordoned off the area with detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide squad commencing a formal investigation into the crime.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

It is unclear also the identity of the shooter or if they have been apprehended.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot in the car before going to a nearby home for assistance, the ABC reported.

It’s the latest shooting in Sydney, coming just two days after 39-year-old Gilbert Shino was shot dead in Forest Lodge.
