Wild weather with strong winds unleashes gusts up to 130km/h causing destruction across Melbourne
Melbourne residents have woken to destruction across the suburbs with wild winds bringing trees down and causing building damage.
A strong cold front started moving over the state on Sunday night and brought with it wind gusts of up to 110km/h and even 130km/h in some areas.

There was building damage in Parkdale with a wall collapsing on one home.
The homeowner told Sunrise he was woken up to an “almighty crash,” but thankfully there were no injuries.
Many schools, including Kilbreda College in Melbourne’s southeast and Clonard College in Geelong, told students there would be remote learning on Monday due to the weather.
The SES received more than 2100 requests for assistance overnight on Sunday and 1600 of those were for trees down.
Frankston made the most calls for assistance and was the busiest suburb in the state, followed by Morwell, Emerald and Warragul.
A severe weather warning remains in place for the state’s northeast ranges and residents there have been told to prepare to take shelter.
Power is out at about 50,000 homes across the state.
Trains have also been affected and buses are replacing services on the Sandringham Line between Sandringham and South Yarra, due to damaged overhead power lines.
Winds are expected to ease across Victoria by Monday evening, but the SES has urged people to stay indoors unless they have to be out and about.
