Media Watch host Paul Barry has quit the program after more than 11 years.

The 72-year-old ABC star — who has hosted Media Watch since 2013 — will depart the show in December.

“It’s a great privilege to host Media Watch and I’ve enjoyed it enormously,” Mr Barry said on Thursday.

“But I’ve been in the hot seat for 11 years and it’s time to give someone else a go.

“Thanks to all our viewers. I’ll be with you until December. And I’m sure the program will go on to great things without me.

“I’m hanging up the mic at the end of this year. But lots of fun to be had before then.”

The award-winning investigative journalist is the longest-serving Media Watch presenter having spent more than a decade criticising and analysing the media industry.

“The award-winning journalist would leave the show at the end of the year with a track record of independent commentary, analysis and robust discussion about the media industry and its ethics — or lack thereof,” An ABC spokesperson said.

The ABC confirmed a new host will be announced later this year.
