Beloved stage and screen actor John Capodice, has died aged 83.

The Italian-American actor known for his appearances in Seinfeld, Ace Ventura and General Hospital passed away on Monday in Blauvelt, New York, according to an obituary on the Pizzi Funeral Home website.

The Army veteran-turned-actor served in the Korean War before making a name for himself in several popular US TV shows and films.

His first on-screen role came in the late 1970s when he starred as Lloyd Lorn in six episodes of the ABC soap opera Ryan’s Hope.

He went on to appear in numerous other classic TV series, including Seinfeld, Kate & Allie, Moonlighting, Murder, Murphy Brown, Law & Order, Will & Grace, and many more.

Capodice will be remembered as a “devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him”, the online tribute said.

Capodice starred in season 2 of the hit American sitcom Seinfeld where he appeared alongside Jerry Seinfeld as a laundromat owner known as “Vic”. In the episode, Vic hilariously has his washing machines destroyed by Jerry and Kramer after they accuse him of stealing money.

In 1994, he joined General Hospital as Carmine Cerullo, appearing on and off until 1996. He continued to pop up on TV shows throughout the late 1990s and 2000s, including Six Feet Under, The West Wing, Everybody Hates Chris, CSI, Monk, and Without A Trace.

On film, Capodice was best known as the dismissive police officer in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective with Jim Carrey.

In more recent years, he was known as the voice behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) and appeared in five episodes of the 2024 streaming series Conversation With Mobster.

He is survived by his wife, daughters, and four grandchildren.
