Spilt Milk has joined the growing list of Australian festivals biting the dust after organisers dropped a bombshell on Friday.

The multi-city music, food and arts event will not go ahead this year, a short post on its official Instagram page confirmed.

“Sorry pookies, we couldn’t get you the Spilt Milk you deserve this year,” it reads.

“Sooo Imma dip for a bit and come back when I can make all ur dreams come true. I miss u.”

No reason was given for the decision but the news is a big blow for live music fans following last year’s strong attendance and an impressive lineup that featured Post Malone and Dom Dolla.

However fans said they were happy to take a year off if it means a strong roster of artists in 2025.

“I think I’d rather see you guys take a year off than drop a lineup people would be disappointed with. Hopefully you’ll come back with a bang next year,” one person said.

In a positive sign, the festival’s official website has an email sign-up page for people wanting to “hear about Spilt Milk 2025”.

7NEWS.com.au has contacted the festival organisers for comment.

The future of Australian festivals is under a cloud following the cancellation of other major events, including Splendour in the Grass, Groovin the Moo and Falls Festival.

Australian Festival Association managing director Mitch Wilson said the soaring cost of running large music events was making it increasingly difficult to do so.

“The Australian music festival industry is currently facing a crisis and the flow-on effects will be felt across the local communities, suppliers and contractors that sustain our festivals and rely on them to support their livelihoods,” Wilson said in March, shortly after Splendour was cancelled.

“If we all step back and let market conditions determine our future, cancellations will continue.”

One fans responding to the Spilt Milk decision said it was clear times were tough “when a festival that sells out every year, can’t even go ahead”.

Another said: “What the f*** is even happening to Australian festivals?”

Spilt Milk was first held in Canberra in 2016 before expanding to Ballarat and the Gold Coast. WA’s capital Perth was added last year.
