Netflix has released the much-anticipated first trailer for the next Squid Game — and it appears to be another nail-biter.

In the teaser, released on Friday, Player 456 (Seong Gi-hun) re-enters the game, telling his fellow contestants he’s played it before.

“Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 (gives) up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind,” Netflix said in its synopsis.

“Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion.”

Lee Jung-jae is reprising his role as Seong Gi-hun, but it’s a different man who arrives at the arena this time around.

“His always-optimistic disposition has been replaced with a hardened demeanour following the horrors of the previous games,” the official press notes read.

“Despite the lasting emotional scars, Gi-hun is on a desperate mission to explode the deadly truth of the competition.

“But will his fellow players heed his warnings — or blaze their own dangerous path?”

Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game became a global phenomenon when it launched in 2021.

After 12 years in development, it took only 12 days for the Korean show to become Netflix’s most popular series ever.

Dominating the streamer’s Top 10 Charts for nine consecutive weeks, it won a swag of awards, including six Emmys, including one for Lee Jung-jae, who walked away with the coveted Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series gong.

The first official teaser for season two also shows the return of Lee Byung-hun as the mysterious Front Man.

Also returning is Wi Ha-Jun’s Hwang Jun-ho “driving the narrative forward as the relentless detective on a mission of his own.”

Squid Game Series 2 launches internationally on December 26 on Netflix.
