Fremantle Dockers notch fifth consecutive win with 41-point triumph over Essendon at Optus Stadium
One, two, three, four... high five.
No, it’s not the kids singing group, but Dockers fans would be as happy as a toddler dancing in their living room after producing their fifth win in a row for only the second time in the past 10 seasons.
The Dockers beat Essendon 16.8 (104) to 9.9 (63) at Optus Stadium to continue their impressive run of form and join Collingwood, Brisbane and Geelong as the only teams to win five games in a row this season.

Luke Jackson was superb as the solo ruckman against first gamer Vigo Visentini. He kicked three goals, had 21 disposals, 10 clearances and 48 hit outs after the Dockers rested Sean Darcy.
Jordan Clark and Luke Ryan were influential in defence while Nate Caddy kept providing highlights for Bombers fans as he showed off his skills and athleticism.
Essendon started strongly on the back of winning four of the first five centre clearances as the midfield stepped up. But then Fremantle set up the win by kicking six goals in a row across the first and second terms. Their first four goals of the second quarter came from five inside-50s.
Jackson gave the home team the perfect start to the term with a goal from the opening bounce, Serong followed with another from the boundary line and then Michael Frederick booted another after copping a high tackle.

That was five consecutive goals for Fremantle and Jackson had five score involvements. Notice the trend yet?
Moments later, they had another from Murphy Reid.
This was a night where the Bombers had six men in the team who hadn’t even played five games, but two of them got the red-and-black army excited.
Archer May, playing his second game since being recruited from Subiaco in the mid-season draft, kicked the first goal of his career. The goal came from his fifth touch of the night. Then, Luamon Lual, playing his third game, soccered another.
The Dockers looked set to blow the game apart when they kicked their fifth goal of the second term thanks to a superb Josh Treacy tackle. But a scuffle erupted in the goalsquare and Shai Bolton pointed to the scoreboard.

That’s always a risky move but he immediately got another chance to rub the Dons’ noses in the turf when Jaxon Prior tripped him moments later. Bolton kicked his second goal and Essendon led by 29 points.
But five minutes later, the Dons had reduced the deficit to only 16 points. Nate Caddy used his fifth mark, which was spectacular, to kick Essendon’s fifth goal. Then Xavier Duursma booted another major to keep his team in touch.
That goal came at a cost though because Duursma was subbed out of the game at half-time with a tight hamstring.
But Fremantle’s big names were playing well. Serong had 16 touches including five clearances and one goal, and Jackson was dominating the ruck.
The Dockers seized control during the third term with four goals to none. Serong kicked multiple goals for just the fifth time in his career and it came after an amazing act of courage from Nathan O’Driscoll - while playing his fifth game of the season- who put himself in harm’s way in a big collision with Will Setterfield.
Then Jackson kicked his third goal to put Fremantle five goals up. It was the fifth time he’d kicked more than two goals in a game.
When Andrew Brayshaw booted another moments later, the home team led by 37 points.

It could have been a bigger margin. Bolton had two chances to kick goals for the term and got run down both times.
Then he chipped the ball to Frederick for what would have been Fremantle’s fifth goal of the quarter, but the siren sounded too quickly.
From there, the question was whether the Dockers could turn the match into a percentage booster. Eighth on the ladder with a percentage of 106.6, they need to find a way to challenge or gain an edge on the teams around them.
May’s second goal for the Dons got it back to 31 points but Pat Voss and O’Driscoll followed in quick succession to put the result beyond doubt and return the focus to the margin.
Fremantle subbed Nat Fyfe out midway through the final quarter. His 11 possessions included five kicks and five score involvements.
The Dockers got the margin out to 45 points before Essendon kicked two quick goals. Frederick then finished off the night with his second goal, from his fifth disposal to give the Dockers a 41-point win and percentage of 110.
All that was left after that was for the players to celebrate with their fans amid plenty of high fives.
