Harley Reid has re-signed with West Coast until the end of 2028, with the young star saying he is “incredibly excited” to commit to the Eagles amid one of the most significant deals in the club’s history.

West Coast warded off a string of Victorian clubs desperate to lure Reid back to his home state, securing a two-year extension for the 2023 No.1 draft pick to take him past the one remaining season he had on his contract.

Reid reportedly told teammates and staff following the end-of-year meeting with the club confirming the news on Tuesday afternoon, with the deal many months in the making and a massive boost for the side that finished with just one victory this season.

“I’m incredibly excited to sign on with this great club,” Reid said.

“Since the day I arrived in Perth the West Coast Eagles members and fans have been so supportive of me and our team, and the future with our young squad is super exciting.

“Playing at Optus Stadium in front of our fans is an unbelievable experience and I love representing the club.”

Reid has been a marked man from rival clubs reportedly willing to offer in excess of $20 million for long-term deals.

But the Eagles had in recent weeks expressed increasing confidence that they could retain his services beyond next year.

After Reid’s manager Nick Gieschen flew into Perth in late July to advance contract talks, West Coast coach Andrew McQualter said earlier this month that he was “really confident” Reid would remain at West Coast for “a long time” despite the club’s on-field struggles and the lure of returning to Victoria.

According to Seven’s Ryan Daniels, the midfielder’s new deal is likely to be around the range of $2 million per year.

Reid praised the club’s players and coaching staff as they look to ascend following four horror seasons in the lower reaches of the ladder.

“The support from our coaches and my teammates has been amazing over the last two years, and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my game and helping the team climb back up the ladder,” he said.

“I can’t wait for the 2026 season and beyond to see what we can achieve together.”

Reid has made 39 appearances for West Coast since debuting at the start of last year, with his 2025 season cut short by a syndesmosis injury suffered in the July western derby.

The second-year player was one of the cellar-dwellers’ best in a testing campaign, averaging 19 disposals and four clearances per game while adding 14 goals.

Eagles list management and recruiting head Matt Clarke said he was “thrilled” to secure Reid’s signature.

“It is a fantastic commitment to the build that we are undertaking both on and off the field,” Clarke said.

“Harley is a very important part of our future and has always displayed a great connection to our football club throughout the process.

“He embodies everything we want in a West Coast Eagle - skill, determination and a fierce competitive spirit.

“The future with Harley and his family on board with the West Coast Eagles is something that we feel will be very special.”

Reid’s signing is easily the biggest move in a string of Eagles list manoeuvres across the past week.

The club locked in top young talent in Jobe Shanahan and Bo Allan on new deals, while farewelling Jayden Hunt, Jack Petruccelle, Callum Jamieson and Loch Rawlinson.

Co-captain Oscar Allen on Sunday confirmed his intention to leave the club for Brisbane, which will likely hand West Coast pick two in November’s draft.
