West Coast negotiations with Harley Reid move in ‘positive direction’ on shorter deal
West Coast and Harley Reid are moving in a “positive direction” on a new deal, but it won’t be a long-term contract that has previously been flagged.
The future of Reid has been an ongoing saga since he joined the Eagles with pick No.1 in the 2023 draft.
He has long been linked with a move back to Victoria with clubs reportedly queuing up with long-term offers for the emerging superstar.

West Coast had put a range of different offers in front of Reid, including a blockbuster two-year deal with a nine-year player option that was reportedly worth well over $20m.
But now that deal appears unlikely.
7NEWS Perth reporter Ryan Daniels said a much shorter deal is now on the table.
“It’s not as far along as people would like to think it is, but I will say this, the conversation is now a positive one between West Coast and Harley’s management,” he said on Triple M.
“The old two-year plus a nine-year extension to get to $24 million, I don’t think that’s going to happen now. That is going to be reworked, it’s going to be a much shorter deal.”
Despite the deal being shorter, it will still catapult Reid into the very top echelon of earners in AFL, joining St Kilda superstar Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera in the $2m club.
“Very similar to a Nas job, now they are looking at a two or three-year extension, on top of the year he already has.
“We’re talking the $2m club, the Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera club.
“There’s a long way to go on this, there are no triggers attached to it, there’s nothing else, it’s just 2-3 years, keep it simple, shorter term, $2m a year.
“That’s what they are looking at now, things have moved, they are not done by any stretch of the imagination.”
Reid has played 39 games in two years for the club and has shown his enormous potential with a string of eye-catching performances.
The explosive midfielder’s season ended earlier after suffering an injury in the loss to Fremantle in Round 20.
