Brisbane Lions in mourning after death of former Fitzroy player Stewart Duncan, aged 84

The Brisbane Lions are in mourning following the sad death of former player Stewart Duncan.
In a shattering blow to the family, Duncan died on Thursday night, just six months after the tragic death of his daughter, Nicole Duncan.
Nicole passed away in January after a short battle with leukemia. She was also loved by the club, spending more than 30 years there as the Lions football administration manager.

He was 84 years old and the club said he “passed away peacefully”.
Duncan played for Fitzroy in the 1960s, long before the merger of the Lions and the Brisbane Bears.

In a statement on Friday, Brisbane said they were in “mourning” after the “sad news”.
Duncan was recruited from Parkside in Melbourne, and played 30 games with Fitzroy between 1960-64.
“He was the 759th player to represent Fitzroy in a senior VFL match and wore the number 18 guernsey throughout his time at the club,” the Lions said.
“Duncan and his family later relocated to Queensland and he remained heavily involved in Australian Rules – even spending time as a volunteer at the Brisbane Lions across a variety of football roles.
“The club extends its sincerest condolences to the entire Duncan family at this incredibly difficult time.”
