Raygun: Northcote home to new statue of Rachael Gunn performing her signature kangaroo move
An “amazing” homemade tribute to Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn has been erected on a quiet Melbourne street.
Gunn first shot to fame in August when she competed in the Olympics’ first-ever breaking event in Paris and failed to secure any points.
Despite scoring zero points and not progressing further in the event, Gunn became a global sensation. So much so she has now been “immortalised” in homemade statue form.

“Following on from her huge success of breakdancing in Paris, Raygun is now dancing in the streets of the north,” the caller said.
Host Ross Stevenson was given a photo of the statue and couldn’t contain his excitement.
“That is amazing, that is awesome! Someone’s put up a statue of Raygun,” he said.
The caller confirmed the statue is “in a public thoroughfare, on the nature strip.”
“That is outstanding,” Stevenson replied.
“Look at the balance they’ve managed to achieve there with that statue. How do you do that?”
It’s not the only statue of Australia’s most globally recognised break dancer to appear in recent days.
As North America prepares for Halloween, one Canadian household dressed a skeleton in the Australian Olympic uniform in Gunn’s iconic pose.
Raygun returned to Australia in early September after her controversial Olympic debut.
Landing in Sydney, Gunn was all smiles when she was met by a waiting pack of photographers.
Her return came as the World DanceSport Federation updated its official ranking for September, with Raygun appearing as No.1 in the official WDSF world rankings for professional breakers.
As of October, Gunn is now ranked No. 17.
Gunn has signed with management team Born Bred Talent who represents other popular personalities including boxer Harry Garside, viral sensation MyNonnaFina and the juggernaut online team The Inspired Unemployed.
Gunn opted not to return home on the Australian Olympic athlete Qantas charter, instead staying on in Europe for a holiday, a move that appears to have paid off for her global image.
During her extended stay, Gunn was seen enjoying dinner with singer Boy George and was spotted dancing with billionaire Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson.
In a video posted on social media, Gunn was seen teaching the Virgin Group founder some new moves in a bizarre dance collaboration while they sailed on a Virgin Voyages Celebration Voyage in the Mediterranean.
