Equestrian star Georgie Campbell, 37, dies after fall at horse trials

British equestrian star Georgie Campbell has been killed in a fall at the Bicton International trials in Devon.

Ms Campbell, 37, and her horse Global Quest fell at a log fence into the water during the cross country event.

Medical professionals were immediately on the scene, but Ms Campbell was pronounced dead.

Ms Campbell competed in more than 200 events, winning on six occasions, including five-star events Badminton and Burghley.

The pair joined forced to establish Team Campbell Eventing.

A spokesman for the Bicton trials said: “It is with deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell suffered a fatal accident. The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by the on-site vets and is uninjured.”

The four-day trials were called off after the accident.
