Four mountaineers have died in separate accidents in the Italian Alps.

The three men and one woman died after falling from mountains peaks in the Veneto, Trentino and Piedmont regions during the weekend, broadcaster RAI reported.

Helicopters and rescue teams were deployed in the affected areas, Italy’s mountain rescue service said.

On Rocciamelone in the Piedmont region, a man fell more than 400m to his death. The rescue teams recovered his body after a complicated operation.

In the Trentino region, a 26-year-old man died when he lost his balance and fell about 30m into a ravine, landing in a riverbed.

In Veneto, a man fell into a crevice and in another incident, a woman fell while abseiling.
