A British social media manager and her South African fiance were found dead in a Vietnamese holiday villa on Boxing Day, days after getting engaged.

The bodies of Greta Marie Otteson, 33, and Arno Els Quinton, 36, were discovered in separate rooms at the Hoi An Silverbell villa by staff who had arrived to clean the property.

Police said that there were no signs of physical trauma and the couple’s belongings were untouched.

“There were no signs of ransacking at the scene,” a Quang Nam Provincial Police spokesman added.

Authorities said they collected empty wine bottles in the room which have been sent for analysis. The rooms remain cordoned off while the investigation continues and autopsies have been ordered on the bodies.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British woman who has died in Vietnam and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Ms Otteson’s body was discovered first before staff forced their way into Mr Quinton’s room and found him dead too.

According to a Vietnam News report, the couple had registered for long-term temporary residence at the tourist villa from July 4 this year and were understood to have got engaged last month.

Just days before their deaths the couple surprised their families with a video uploaded on YouTube of their engagement.

It contained a montage of clips showing the couple holding hands and walking around the coastal city of Hoi An, with Greta in a white dress.

In the video, Mr Quinton reveals the pair met in the Middle East before moving to Vietnam in a life change that he described as “fun”, “crazy”, and “insane”.

Ms Otteson, who is believed to be from Wales, was a travel lover who had lived in Dubai and backpacked around different countries in Asia before settling in Vietnam.

She was a digital strategist who ran a social media and content marketing agency called Not Sorry Socials. Mr Quinton was a barista, musician and streamer.

His friend Dayle Visser wrote online: “Rest in peace my brother. Thank you for always being the fierce friend you were. You saved me many a time.

“You lived life harder than most people could ever dream of.”
