A Dutch parachutist has accidentally landed in a bonobo monkey enclosure at a zoo in the Netherlands but thankfully avoided becoming the lions’ lunch.

The man was supposed to land at a sports stadium but was blown off course.

He was lucky to escape serious injury, zoo officials said.

“A hundred metres further and he would have landed among either the elephants or the lions,” said Robin de Lange, director of the Ouwehands Zoo.

The bonobos monkeys were locked inside the enclosure when he landed on Saturday afternoon.

The man’s parachute was probably blown off course by gusts of wind, the Dutch ANP news agency reported.

He was supposed to land on a nearby football pitch - as an attraction at the inauguration of the new artificial turf of the regional club Candia ‘66.
