Platforms facing issues include PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web, and others.
Along with impacts to gaming and video services, users might also experience issues accessing their accounts or shopping at the virtual PlayStation Store.
Gamers across the globe have vented their frustration online, with many claiming the communication from the gaming juggernaut has been far from adequate.
“Hugely disappointed with the lack of communication by PlayStation concerning the outage currently going on throughout all services. It shouldn’t be up to game accounts to acknowledge the issues. Do better,” one X user said.
Another labelled the multi-billion-dollar company’s radio silence as “pathetic”.
Other users reflected on the 2011 outage which was a result of a significant security breach.
“To all veteran gamers: Remember in 2011 when the PlayStation Network suffered a data breach that resulted in a 23-day complete server outage, compromising millions of accounts and costing Sony $171 million in damages?” one person wrote.
During this period, Sony compensated users with 30 days of PlayStation Plus access as well as free games titles.
With many users unable to access services they might use daily, one irate gamer requested compensation.
“So are we going to get anything out of the service outage??? Gift card? Discount on the bill for the monthly subscriptions? Like I’m paying for a service and you aren’t providing...” they wrote.
At the time of writing, the network outage has been in effect for five hours.
Many users fear a major hack is at play, largely due to the lack of information provided by Sony.
The gaming giant has not provided any further update or communication to users , with no end to the outage yet clear.
