ALDI, Coles, Woolworths issue urgent recall after popular health food snacks found to contain metal fragments

Australia’s big three supermarkets have been forced to issue urgent recalls after two popular health food snack products were found to have been contaminated with shards of metal.

Woolworths, Coles and ALDI have initiated nationwide alerts after the Smooshed Wholefood Protein Balls and Made Real Wholefood Balls were identified as containing pieces of metal.

The two products have been removed from shelves with Food Standards Australia & New Zealand warning Australians not to eat them.

The warning stated there is a potential for the foods to contain “foreign matter (metal)“ and that consuming the products may cause illness or injury.

The Smooshed Wholefood Protein Balls have been available for sale at both Coles and Woolworths stores nationally and the Made Real Wholefood Balls have been on sale in ALDI stores in NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD, SA and WA.

The recall applies to the following ALDI products and date markings:

• Made Real Wholefood Balls Peanut Butter & Caramel Flavoured 69g. Date Marking: 16 APR 26, 17 APR 26, 20 MAY 26, 21 MAY 26, 09 JUL 26, 10 JUL 26
• Made Real Wholefood Balls Cashew, Cocoa & Berry Flavoured 184g. Date Marking: 03 SEP 26, 04 SEP 26
• Made Real Wholefood Balls Peanut Butter & Caramel Flavoured 184g. Date Marking: 19 MAY 26, 21 MAY 26, 05 AUG 26, 06 AUG 26, 05 SEP 26

FSANZ warned that consumers who have concerns about their health after consuming any of the products should seek medical advice and shoppers can return all products to the retailers for a full refund.
