Christmas is about to come early for thousands of Aussies looking for some extra silly-season spending money.

Amazon Australia has announced plans to hire at least 1800 seasonal workers across its Australian fulfilment centres and logistics sites ahead of the looming holiday season.

The Prime member exclusive sale event, Prime Big Deal Days, which kicks off on October 7, marks the first event on the Amazon Christmas sales calendar and Amazon need an army of workers to keep the packages flowing.

The Prime Big Deal Days will feature a week of deals commencing at 12.01am on Tuesday October 7 and concluding at 11.59pm on Monday October 13 and is a pre-cursor to the monster Black Friday event.

“There is no previous experience required as we provide on-the-job training, so we are just looking for enthusiastic people to sign up for a seasonal role. These roles are a great way to gain experience, learn new skills and even kick-start a long-term career at Amazon,” said Michelle Theophilou, Senior HR Manager, Amazon Australia.

Sales are expected to boom and Amazon has begun the search for casual workers to pick, pack and ship customer orders, ahead of the holidays.

Applications are now open in metropolitan and regional centres including Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Gosford and Geelong.

“Whether you’re a university student looking to earn during study breaks, a retiree eager to stay connected or anyone in between, these roles offer a rewarding way to earn some money in a positive and safe environment,” Ms Theophilou said.

Many former ‘seasonal’ workers have transitioned to permanent employee status with the company announcing it has onboarded more than 1,500 permanent roles this year across its operational network.

“When I first started working at the Amazon Robotics Fulfilment Centre, I felt like I’d stepped into the future – and my journey since then has been incredible, said Amazon Associate Rajeshwar Singh.

“Starting as a seasonal hire, I quickly moved up to become a problem solver and now I’m proud to be leading a team of 30 to 50 people on my own.

“The support I’ve received here has been amazing, from the flexible schedule that lets me spend quality time with my young family to the managers who’ve helped me grow in my career, and that’s why I’d encourage anyone looking for their next opportunity to join us.”

Applications are now open at amazon.com/australiajobs.
