Australia weather: NSW, Victoria and Queensland face severe storms, heavy rain, damaging winds and floods
A powerful weather system is sweeping across multiple States, bringing the threat of severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, flooding and falls of up to 100mm.
Severe weather warnings have been issued across parts of Australia as a sprawling rain and thunderstorm system threatens damaging winds, heavy downpours and flooding.
A low-pressure system combining with tropical moisture dragged south from northern Australia is driving the wild conditions, with the system moving east after dumping heavy rain across South Australia and Tasmania on Monday.
The Bureau of Meteorology has now issued severe weather warnings for parts of NSW and Victoria, with conditions expected to deteriorate throughout Tuesday.

Some of the heaviest falls are expected across the ranges of southern NSW and northeast Victoria, where between 50mm and 100mm could fall over the coming hours.
Elsewhere, widespread totals of between 10mm and 30mm are forecast.
The deluge has also sparked concerns about rising waterways, with a flood watch in place for parts of northwest, central and northeast Victoria.
Minor to moderate flooding is possible from Tuesday as rain continues to soak already affected areas.
The threat does not end with the rain, with forecasters warning severe thunderstorms could erupt across a huge stretch of the country.
Storms may develop along a broad corridor extending from northern Victoria through western NSW and into southern Queensland on Tuesday.
Weatherzone said unstable atmospheric conditions behind the initial rain band could deliver a second round of dangerous weather.
“This means some areas may see a period of persistent rain followed by potentially severe thunderstorm activity.”
Conditions are also expected to turn rough along parts of the coastline, with marine wind warnings issued for waters off Adelaide, the Macquarie, Hunter and Eden coasts in NSW and Victoria’s East Gippsland coast.
The system should begin pushing away from the mainland and into the Tasman Sea from Wednesday, although thunderstorms could continue developing behind it.
There is better news on the horizon, with much of eastern Australia expected to see drier and calmer conditions from Thursday.
