One of the country's most beloved chefs, Maggie Beer has suffered a nasty fall at her home in South Australia's Barossa.

Renowned Australian chef Maggie Beer has been rushed to hospital after suffering a fall at her Barossa Valley home in South Australia.

The 79-year-old Australian food icon suffered minor bone fractures and related injuries, a post on her Instagram page said.

Beer is expected to make a full recovery, but her family said in the post “it may just take a little while”.

“More than anything else, Maggie hates letting people down. But she has multiple events and public engagements coming up that she may have to miss,” the social media post said.

“She has asked us to apologise on her behalf to all those affected — and has asked for your patience as she recuperates.”

Other well-known chefs and fans of Beer left well-wishes on her Instagram page.

“Sending you all our love and healing energy beautiful Maggie,” fellow celebrity chef, Kylie Kwong said.

“Maggie is one of the very best x hugs for a full recovery very soon. Wonderful lady, get better soon,” a fan commented.

Beer is a restaurant owner, author, food manufacturer and recently hosted Maggie Beer’s Big Mission on ABC TV, aiming to transform meals at aged care homes.
