A boy is fighting for his life following a freak sporting accident in Adelaide’s north.

SA Ambulance paramedics were called just before 5pm on Thursday when the 13-year-old boy was struck during hammer throw training at St Albans Reserve in Clearview.

He was treated at the scene for critical head injuries before being taken to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital for further treatment, where he remains.

The boy is understood to be a student at Christian Brothers College.
