A father who died alongside his young son in a shocking two-car crash in Brisbane’s south has been identified.

Chris Vrbesic, 37, was driving his blue Holden Commodore along Rickertt Rd in Ransome when he crashed with a red Mitsubishi Lancer at the intersection with Chelsea Road just before 9am on Sunday.

His four-year-old son was found in a critical condition and rushed to hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 29-year-old Birkdale man, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with minor injuries.

A project manager at Innate Developments, Vrbesic specialised in residential and commercial construction but was a car enthusiast outside the office.

Tributes for the young father have begun to flood in over social media, with one friend posting pictures of Vrbesic alongside classic cars and the caption “forever cruising”.

Tributes from a car club Vrbesic was a part of said he would be dearly missed.

“On behalf of the Seven of Clubs a Mazda Car Club of Queensland, we are sending our condolences to the Vrbesic family on the passing of Chris and his son who were involved in a tragic car accident yesterday morning,” they said.

“Chris has been a member of the club for many years and will be dearly missed by all. Rest in peace, my friend.”

A friend of Vrbesic who visited the crash scene told the Courier Mail that he was a family man with a big heart.

“I just can’t understand how something like this has happened,” he said.

“It just doesn’t make sense.”

Police said investigations into how the crash happened are ongoing.

“Investigators are appealing to any witnesses, or anyone with relevant vision to contact police,” they said.
