Carjacker killed when thrown from car in wild crash in Richmond, Melbourne

An innocent woman was also injured when the Mustang collided with two other cars.

A 46-year-old man from Melton died after crashing an allegedly stolen Mustang head-on into a Range Rover and Toyota Camry on Barassi Way in Richmond, behind the MCG.

A carjacker has died after being thrown from a stolen car during a wild crime spree across Melbourne’s east.

The man is alleged to have stolen a white Subaru and was seen driving erratically down the wrong side of the road right next to the MCG in Richmond about 9pm on Saturday.

Shortly after the carjacking, the Subaru crashed into two cars including a Ford Mustang, near Punt Rd and Boulton Pde.

Police said the man got out of his crashed car and jumped into the Mustang before speeding off.

The driver of the Mustang wasn’t injured and wasn’t in the car at the time.

The man continued his erratic driving in the stolen Mustang before crashing head on with a Range Rover and then into a Toyota Camry on Barassi Way in East Melbourne.

The force of the crash ejected the 46-year-old Melton man from the Mustang and he was killed.

A woman driving the Range Rover was treated for an injury to her arm and was taken to hospital.

The other motorist involved wasn’t injured, police said.

“Brunton Avenue has been closed to traffic while police process the scene,” police said.

“Police are also following up reports the vehicle was seen driving erratically in Clarendon and Whiteman streets prior to the first collision.”

Police said the Subaru, which was bearing false plates, was stolen from Glen Iris on Thursday.

Anyone with information or dashcam vision of the incident is urged to contact police.
