Wondering whether the weather will be a gift or a punish this Christmas?

Well, the first of the early forecasts for the big day are in and it’s fantastic news for most of the country, while residents in some capital cities should prepare for rain and even a possible thunderstorm.

With Christmas now less than two weeks away, Weatherzone has released its modelling of what we can expect.

What is the weather forecast for Christmas Day?

In Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth conditions should be dry with mostly sunny skies. And rain is unlikely in Adelaide and Hobart, too.

For Sydneysiders, though, the forecast comes with a warning. While the temperature is expected to be around a warm 28C, they should brace for a possible thunderstorm.

The forecast for Darwin is unlikely to surprise locals at this time of year: warm with a chance of thunderstorms.

And in the nation’s capital Canberrans can expect a toasty warm Christmas day with a temperature around 30C but the heat may mean some showers and storms develop.

But all of that comes with one major qualification for those planning Christmas Day activities, according to Weatherzone.

It said that as a general rule predictions for days one to three ahead of the date have the highest confidence, days four to seven have moderate confidence and days eight to 14 have lower confidence.

So, this far out, Weatherzone is advising people use the forecast as a general guide only.

“It is probably too early to make any changes to your plans this far ahead but start thinking about what the current forecasts might mean for your plans on the day,” a statement read.
