A 72-year-old woman was left seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in a shocking hit-and-run incident

The woman was reportedly crossing Sydney Road in Coburg on a green pedestrian light when a vehicle, turning right from Edward Street, collided with her.

The impact, which occurred around 3.20pm on Wednesday, caused the pedestrian to hit the bonnet of the vehicle before she was thrown to the ground.

Shockingly, the driver did not stop to assist and instead fled the scene, continuing northbound on Sydney Road.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Victoria Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage to come forward. Detectives are particularly keen to hear from the driver involved in the incident.
