A string of brazen incidents has left an Aussie cafe stunned, with CCTV revealing customers allegedly pulling off the same audacious trick and getting away with it.

A Bondi cafe has exposed what it describes as a string of brazen thefts, releasing CCTV footage of customers allegedly faking payment before walking out with food and drinks.
Common Supply, a recently opened health food store on Campbell Parade, says it was targeted over four consecutive days by people using a “fake checkout” tactic to avoid paying.
The venue claims the same pattern played out repeatedly: customers selecting premium juices and pre-made meals from a front-of-store fridge, then pretending to process a transaction at self-service iPads, before leaving without paying.

Footage shared online shows a man in a hoodie and cap appearing to load up items before tapping on a checkout screen and exiting the store.
In another clip, two men during a busy lunch period appear to follow a similar routine, allegedly taking several drinks, blending in with paying customers. By the weekend, the behaviour spread, with other customers, including a man dressed in activewear, seemingly repeating the same method.
The cafe said the incidents marked a disappointing breach of trust in a community it believed would respect the system.
“Didn’t think we’d ever have to post something like this … especially in Bondi of all places,” an Instagram caption read.
“Maybe the front fridge looked like a self-serve situation? Or maybe these boys thought they’d cracked the ultimate life hack?”
The business said it has identified several of the individuals involved and attempted to contact them, but received little response beyond one person “blaming it on a big night the night before”.
“Not sure that one holds up,” the post continued.
“Just to clear it up for anyone still unsure – the fridge isn’t free.
“Bondi’s a small place. We’re all part of the same community, and this isn’t how it should be.
“We’re a small, independently owned business, and stuff like this genuinely adds up over time. It’s disappointing, especially when it’s familiar faces.
“Please just pay for what you take. That’s all we ask.”
The cafe said it has now handed over all the footage to authorities. NSW Police said they were unable to locate a formal report when contacted, News.com.au reported.
The clips have since spread rapidly online, drawing backlash from locals and business owners who described the behaviour as entitled and damaging.
The store, which opened late last year and has since expanded into Sydney’s CBD, was built around a premium, convenience-focused offering, with grab-and-go meals designed for busy customers.
What was intended to be a seamless experience, however, has instead exposed how easily that system can be manipulated.
