A man was assaulted and then sent flying through a fence when he was hit by a vehicle after he approached a hooning driver in Melbourne’s southeast.

The incident began when a black Holden station wagon and white Holden ute were hooning near Tristania St Doveton about 11am on Sunday and the 42-year-old man approached the black Holden.

The driver got out of the station wagon and assaulted him, then got back into the Holden and deliberately drove at the man, hitting him and causing him to roll onto the bonnet.

He was then thrown through a timber fence by the momentum, landing in a front yard.

The two cars drove off towards Paperbark St and police are urging anyone with information or dashcam to contact them as they are yet to be located.

The victim did not require medical treatment.
