Driver flees the scene of devastating crash in Kilmore north of Melbourne, leaving badly injured passenger behind

A driver has left their badly injured passenger behind following a crash north of Melbourne.
The 38-year-old woman was the passenger of a Mitsubishi station wagon driving along Kilmore East Rd in Kilmore when it lost control and left the road before crashing into a tree about 8pm on Wednesday.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the woman for significant and life-threatening injures.

The driver fled the scene and is yet to be identified, according to police.
Detective Sergeant Roslyn Wilson said police were worried the driver might have received injuries in the crash.
“We’re appealing to the driver to come forward,” she said.
The circumstances of the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
Police urged drivers to take care, with 21 people having died on Victorian roads already this year.
“We’ve had a number of collisions over the last week, and we really need people to pay attention when they’re driving,” Wilson said.
“Our road toll is ever-increasing, we’ve had a terrible start to the year.”
