A number of shots were fired and a 19-year-old was injured.

A young man has been shot soon after being involved in a road rage incident on a Melbourne street.

While the exact details of the road rage are not known, it is understood to have involved the occupants of a white Nissan and a black Chery SUV on Lovely St, Fawkner at 5.15pm on February 29.

No one was physically injured and the five men in the Nissan then travelled to Charles Mutton Reserve and stopped in the car park.

A few minutes after they parked, their car was rammed from behind by a gold-coloured Holden Rodeo.

CCTV footage shows four males with baseball bats then getting out of the Holden and chasing the Nissan occupants into the reserve.

One of the males from the Holden produces a firearm and shoots in the direction of the men.

A few minutes later, the men from the Nissan manage to lose their attackers and get back into their damaged vehicle and drive away — with a 19-year-old man from Clifton Hill who was shot in the upper body going to hospital for treatment.

Five minutes after the shooting, the Holden Rodeo collided with a red Mazda on the Western Ring Rd and Sydney Rd on-ramp.

No one was injured but the Holden occupants left the vehicle and it is believed were picked up in a black SUV a short time later.

On Thursday, police released footage of the road rage incident and shooting in the hope someone recognises any of the men involved.

Police believe the incident was targeted and the parties involved were likely known to each other.

“This is a particularly concerning incident, especially given innocent members of the public were present,” Detective Inspector Adam Tilley said.

“Such a reckless use of firearms had the potential for a significantly more devastating outcome.”
