She is expected to be paid upwards of $103,550 being a non-executive board member, as set by the Remuneration Tribunal to cover the 2023-2024 financial year.

Ms Palaszczuk’s appointment was met with praise from government ministers, saying her experience was “highly applicable in guiding Australia Post’s critical work with government on modernisation reforms over the coming years.”

Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland said Ms Palaszczuk would bring a “wealth of experience in service delivery to regional and rural communities” to the board.

“Australia Post’s modernisation is critical to ensure it can invest to remain sustainable and continue to deliver for Australian communities over the longer term,” Ms Rowland said.

“Ms Palaszczuk’s appointment ensures a strong and diverse Board to support Australia Post on its modernisation journey. Our Government is committed to ensuring that Australia Post remains an integral institution for all Australians.”

Minister for Finance Katy Gallagher also echoed the praise, congratulating the former premier on her new role.

“I congratulate Ms Palaszczuk on her appointment to the Australia Post Board, she brings a wealth of experience to the role, which will help Australia Post modernise and meet the changing needs of consumers,” Senator Gallagher said.

“Hundreds of thousands of Australians rely on Australia Post services every day and we are committed to making sure it keeps delivering for consumers.”

Her appointment to the Australia Post Board is the second role Ms Palaszczuk has taken since retiring from politics in December 2023 after an eight-year stint as premier.

In May she was named an international ambassador to independent not-for-profit the Smart Energy Council. She led a delegation to China in June.

Speaking of that role, she told ABC Radio Brisbane she was “very passionate about this industry and it’s something that I think can add to their line of work.”
