Golden Link Australia: Sonic 3 24oz LED movie cups sold at Hoyts recalled, battery dangerous for children

A popular limited edition set of plastic movie cups sold across an Australian-wide cinema chain has been recalled after the ACCC deemed them dangerous.
Plastic battery-powered Sonic 3 cups, sold by Hoyts Cinemas, were deemed non-compliant with national standards for products containing button/coin batteries in a statement released by the ACCC on October 27.
The light up LED cups were supplied by Golden Link Australia Pty Ltd and sold at cinemas when the movie was released on December 26, 2024 until January 9 2025.

The ACCC found children could access the battery in the Sonic 3 cup because the screw in its covering could be removed.
The body also found that both the screw and covering could be lost when the battery was being replaced.
Further, the product should have had warnings about the dangers of button batteries to children and what to do if a person ingests one.
ACCC said that children are at risk of choking, serious injury or death if they swallow or place the battery inside their bodies.
Customers have been advised to stop using the cups immediately and keep the batteries inside the cups.
They can contact Golden Link to arrange a return of the product for a full refund.
Purchasers who have already thrown out to cup or given it to another person are advised to contact Golden Link.
The Nightly contacted Golden Link Australia Pty Ltd and Hoyts Cinema Australia for comment.
