A child from a prestigious private school has been left in a critical condition after being struck by a falling tree while on a school excursion to Government House.

Central Coast Grammar was holding its year six camp in the nation’s capital, travelling to Government House for a day visit.

Emergency services responded to a triple-zero call on Wednesday, being told multiple children had been struck by a falling tree branch on the grounds of the Governor General’s residence.

On arrival, around 2.30pm, ACT Emergency Services Agency paramedics discovered a child in a critical condition.

The child was transferred to a NSW hospital for urgent medical treatment.

NSW Health has been contacted for an update on the child’s condition.

Central Coast Grammar principal Phil O’Regen emailed the school community on Thursday to provide an update, saying the school girl remained in a critical condition.

“Our staff remain in contact with all year 6 families, offering the care and assistance of our counselling and wellbeing teams, and we extend our support to any other student requiring additional help,” the email to year six parents said.

“As a close community with strong values, I ask that you keep [the student] and their family in your hearts. Also, that you keep a watchful eye on your child and ask for help if they are struggling to cope with what has occurred.”

Psychologists have been made available at the school to offer support to the school community.

Paramedics also assessed another two other children at Government House, both being treated on-site for minor injuries.

Central Coast Grammar is a private K-12 school based in Erina where fees range from $14,700 to $26,00 a year.
