Sydney’s highest apartment building has been evacuated after multiple fires broke out.

Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed they have evacuated approximately 500 people from the tower onto Bathurst St after a fire broke out in the building’s garbage shoot.

The garbage shoot connects all 67 levels of the 237m tall residential tower.

Residents from the 479 apartments raced to evacuate the skyscraper, trekking up to 230 meters down two fire escapes.

Fire crews are on site urgently assessing the situation.
