Groote Eylandt, NT: Aircraft crashes into waters near Angurugu, police currently responding to incident
‘No aircraft wreckage or persons have been located.’
A small aircraft has crashed into the waters off the Northern Territory.
Emergency services received a report about a plane crashing near Angurugu on Groote Eylandt at approximately 11.40am on Tuesday.
NT Police told The Nightly they were responding to reports of a “small aircraft crash” after it was reported by a vessel in the area.

By continuing you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy.“Initial information indicates the pilot was the only recorded occupant of the aircraft; however, police are continuing to confirm the number of people on board,” a statement said.
“Police have since arrived in the area and are conducting searches; however, at this stage no aircraft wreckage or persons have been located.
“The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified, and police are working closely with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to confirm the circumstances of the crash.”
Groote Eylandt is located off the east coast of the Northern Territory in the Gulf of Carpentaria, about 630 kilometres east of Darwin.
