Paramedics later transferred the 25-year-old woman to Bichat Hospital.
CCTV footage shows the woman hiding in a kebab shop as staff attempt to comfort her.
A man is then seen walking into the shop as the woman gestures that the man is her attacker.
The alleged attacker lingers before approaching the woman and patting her on the back.
A diner is then seen confronting the man before he flees the shop.
The police arrive a few minutes later, as staff and diners tend to the woman.
The owner told 7NEWS the woman could not stop crying, and her dress was damaged.
The woman had told police she had been raped by five men.
It’s understood the woman was planning to travel back to Australia but is now remaining in Paris to help police with their investigation.
Meanwhile, a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson told 7NEWS the Australian Embassy in Paris is “making urgent enquiries with French authorities following reports of an Australian citizen assaulted in Paris”.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stands ready to provide consular assistance,” it said.
‘Horrific’
Olympic team officials have been briefed on the incident and Australian chef de mission Anna Meares said she had heard of no threats against team members, however, they are being advised to be careful when going outside the athletes’ village.
“I have been informed, it sounds horrific. Obviously, our hearts go out to the woman involved and we hope she’s being cared for and supported in the trauma she’s experienced,” Meares said on Tuesday morning.
“There’s not a lot of detail and information that has come through.”
Meares reiterated that team members had been briefed thoroughly on security and safety precautions.
“What information we’re passing onto our athletes is that security presence is really, really high and that’s in order for them to act as quickly as possible to keep them safe,” she said.
“We don’t yet have any feedback from our athletes that they have felt unsafe - we are encouraging them, if they go out of the village, not to go out on their own, not to wear (their) team uniform, just to wear plain clothes.
“We’re just waiting on further information on the actual case itself.”
The Games opening ceremony is on Friday evening.
