An Australian man on his honeymoon with his new wife in Bali has died after being swept out to sea in dangerous swells.

Newlyweds Jacob Vennix and his wife Kimberly Ann were at Pasut Beach, around 30kms out of Denpasar, on Monday when things took a tragic turn.

Mr Vennix was caught in a dangerous rip and was eventually pulled from the water unconscious.

“At around 4pm, Jacob was swept by the current into the sea. His wife Kimberly Ann immediately asked for help,” the Daily Mail reported Tabanan Police spokesperson I Gusti Made Berata saying.

Onlookers desperately tried to save the South Australian, including a local fisherman who attempted to rescue Mr Vennix with his boat.

His body was eventually caught by a wave, taking his body back to shore.

“The victim was later swept by the wave onto the beach. Some locals and the victim’s wife who were waiting on the beach immediately tried to save the victim,” Mr Berata said.

Mr Vennix was unconscious when the wave brought his body to shore, and he was rushed to Tabanan Public Hospital.

Tragically, Mr Vennix was declared deceased at the hospital a short time later.

It is understood that Mr Vennix and his wife shared two young children.

On a recent social media post from Guide Dogs Australia, Mr Vennix was celebrated for completing the Lumary City-Bay Fun Run in Adelaide blindfolded.

The couple’s one-year-old child Cole was born with bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia, a condition that severely affects vision.

“Guide Dogs SA/NT has been an incredible help with us and Cole, providing assistance to teach Cole to develop and learn despite his condition,” Mr Vennix told Guide Dogs Australia.

Mr Vennix completed the 12km run, with his partner being his guide, raising $4,300 for Guide Dogs SA/NT.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have been approached for comment.
