Two police officers were conducting ‘urgent duties’ when they crashed head-on into two other vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.

Two police officers and a civilian are in hospital after a three-vehicle crash in Sydney’s southwest on Thursday.

The crash occurred around 8.50am on Thursday, on the Hume Highway in Lansdowne.

Emergency services responded to the scene following reports of a collision involving a police vehicle and two other cars at the intersection of Woodville Road.

The police officers were conducting “urgent duties” when they collided head-on with two other vehicles travelling in the opposite direction.

The two male senior constables, aged 43 and 55, were treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to Liverpool Hospital.

Both officers are reported to be in stable condition.

The driver of one of the other vehicles, a 20-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the third vehicle involved was luckily unharmed.

The major road was closed, with traffic banked for some time after the crash.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
