A man has been charged over an alleged serious domestic violence incident in Darwin’s north.

Police who initially responded to a disturbance at a home on Fawcett Ct, Malak, just after 1am on Thursday found a pool of blood believed to be from a fight between two women.

However, the apparent victim did not appear visibly injured at the time and left — heading towards Tabletop Pl in Malak, police said.

Soon after, police responded to reports a man was threatening the female victim at another location.

“Officers found the victim suffering from apparent stab wounds to her ankle,” NT Police said.

The 29-year-old woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

About 4.30am, police were told a trail of blood had been found at Hawkins Court, Malak.

Police followed the trail and found a man, aged 30, asleep beside a pool of blood.

He ran off but was quickly caught and taken into custody.

On Friday morning he was charged with aggravated assault, breaching a domestic violence order and escaping custody.

He will appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday.
